This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 1st edition, 1981, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 179: A new $400,000 home was in the making for the School of Education in 1950. The foundation of Thach Hall had been poured, and the building was occupied the next year. Directly uphill on Thach Avenue stood Tichenor Hall, known as the New Building for many years after its completion in 1940. Peeking out to the right of Tichenor is one of the many temporary classroom buildings. At the rear of Tichenor, and further uphill, was Alumni Gym. Samford, of course, stood tall in the distance.
